Hi Slingshot
I hope you remember me. I would never forget your performance for Funmi
at the New Connaught Rooms on August 13. My friends were wondering how
they were going to meet you. And guess what? It was as if you read our
minds! You just walked up to us and sang to me! I was so uncomfortable
with the lights on me! But thank you, anyway. I love the attention you
paid to me. [

Please write me back soon.

By chance I saw part of the above on T.V in U.K. Having been born in
Guyana (1954), I was in tears as memories came flooding back. How can I
get hold of your Island Breeze on DVD, and also some music CDs by you?
Listening to you gave me the same buzz I remember when listening to the
Merry Men in the 60`s
Thank you for your wonderful music, and I hope some of the words are
listened to by men and women that can make Guyana a prosperous place for
all its people. They still appear to be happy people but the poverty
they suffer brings sadness to my heart.
I have also written to Ken Chung in London asking for information.

Hi John:
It certainly was a pleasure speaking with you this past weekend. As
mentioned, my wife and I had a chance recently to visit your website and
read your bio and being Guyana's ourselves, we wanted to let you know
just how proud we are of you. It is amazing that as a thirteen year old,
left on your own devices, without any parental guidance, that you were
able to stay on the right side of the tracks, so to speak.
Yours is a true story of present day rags to riches, you made the right
choices, persevered and succeeded in a very difficult career, that we
both love so much. In addition to this, you use your talent and fame to
assist those less fortunate. That is truly a great achievement in this
dog eat dog world of entertainment. You truly are the author of your
own destiny".
From one fellow artist to another, keep up the great work my friend,
stay positive and keep the faith.
Best regards to you and your family.

World of music. I have to say it just touches where the heart is, and
hearing it in London brings the feeling of being proud to be a true

[
] Slingshot has written and performed several works relating to
Guyana, and the people of Guyana. These songs relate to the difficulties
the Guyanese have faced in overcoming the problems, both economic and
political. [
]
Slingshot's songs are about all the peoples of Guyana, and although he
is living in the United States, he carries his message to Canada, The
United Kingdom, The United States and Guyana. He recently performed at
The Guyana Festival in Toronto, Canada, where he performed and literally
"waved the flag" before a largely Guyanese audience. He travels often,
and spreads his message everywhere.
Slingshot work reflects his experiences living in the Greater Georgetown
area and on the Corentyne. He sings of the disadvantaged, and asks
Guyanese to rise up to the challenges they face as a nation, and many of
his songs reflect a spirit of those who are not necessarily from the
city of Georgetown. [
